THE LIFE BALANCER - Find Greater Flexibility in Northern California
A veterinary career built to work with your life.
You’re committed to your career, but you’re also the person someone depends on outside of work.
School drop-offs. Pickups. Appointments. Childcare. Caring for a parent or loved one. Life doesn’t always fit neatly around a traditional veterinary schedule—and you shouldn’t have to choose between being present at home and continuing to build a career you love.
At Vetco Total Care, select Northern California opportunities can offer a different approach to full-time veterinary medicine: a schedule intentionally designed around the realities of your life.

Full-time benefits. A different kind of full-time schedule.
A traditional veterinary schedule doesn’t work for everyone.
For select Life Balancer opportunities, VTC can offer full-time employment and benefits with five six-hour shifts per week, giving you the consistency of a full-time career without requiring long days away from home. You can build your workday around the hours that work better for your life while continuing to practice the medicine you love.
Need more room in the middle of your day?
Sometimes it isn’t the total number of hours that matters - it’s when you need flexibility.
For select opportunities, an extended two-hour lunch can create space during the workday for appointments, school activities, caregiving responsibilities or simply the things that don't conveniently happen before or after work.
Because your needs can change.
The schedule that works for you today might not work six months or even one month from now.
Rather than locking you into one arrangement indefinitely, select Life Balancer schedules can be revisited every 30 days, creating opportunities to adjust your schedule as caregiving and household needs change.
It's flexibility designed for real life, not just flexibility on paper.
More support for the life outside the hospital.
Time is only one piece of the equation.
For select opportunities, VTC is exploring additional caregiver-focused support, including childcare assistance that may be provided through spot bonuses, alongside the broader benefits available to eligible full-time veterinarians.
That means support for your career and more resources for the responsibilities waiting for you when you leave the hospital.
When your workday ends, it ends.
You shouldn't have to build childcare or caregiving plans around unexpected overnight shifts or being called back into the hospital.
At VTC, there are no on-call or overnight shifts, helping create more predictable boundaries around your time.
Add clinical autonomy, no non-compete and no negative accrual or pro-sal, and you can focus on practicing great medicine without some of the traditional pressures that can make balancing career and home even harder.
A career that makes room for both.

My biggest hesitation was that Vetco Total Care would be like the other two corporate practices that I worked for previously. The other two corporates were very similar in how the veterinarians were treated and it led to burnout. I have found VTC to be night and day different from other corporations. The company respects and supports my work-life balance and the quality of care that I want to provide.
